wheat:      live the charlotte-Leicester

I suggest anyone who loves live music  moves to Leicester.Over the next month the charlotte and Uni. have gigs by granddaddy, dark star, dandy warhols,an nme on night and other bands playing every night of the week.Compare that feast with Brums meagre offerings and it makes you want to start a revolution, second city ha.

We've turned up at a ridiculously early hour thinking we d have traffic jams, one way systems and finding a needle in a haystack type venue search but straight in to the centre and the Charlotte smacks you in the face. Its about the size and shape of the Flapper but with a much better bill of fare.why?

There are two support bands(reviewed elsewhere)and after an interminable wait,at last wheat amble on ,light a cigarette, tune up ,smile and then it starts, the head nodding, the whole venue unable to stop themselves from bouncing and nodding along with this wonderful groove.

I d wondered how they would transfer the subtle sweetness of the album into a live show but rarely have I seen four musicians perform with more attitude and passion.

Every chord, note and drum beat joyfully torn from the instruments, coaxed into life, and sent to the crowd with love.

I love the album and its just a pleasure to hear these songs live, they re better, more real and twice as powerful emotionally.RAISED RANCH REVOLUTION,SOFT POLLUTED,SAN DIEGO,DONT I HOLD YOU,played with the intensity of a punk rock band but still with the gentleness of someone who knows about music and passion and life.

Halfway through, they encourage the audience to move closer to the stage and as if they ve been hypnotised the whole crowd take a step forward, and it begins again.Wheat play some tunes from their first album and the real die hard fans call for some more.

After an hour they try to leave ,dripping in sweat, but we wont let them and they play 3 encores, finishing with the beautiful "who's the one " that builds into a frenzy of drums, bass and guitars.

It doesn t matter what sort of music you like or play, great bands are great and I must ask you nicely ,go see wheat,be a musician, write great songs, make people happy........I m already working on it.....

WHEAT:HOPE AND ADAMS

"Your love  is a parking lot with pot holes and faded lines and the kids don't hang because the cops just chase them away"

Lyrics are sometimes all you need to know,if you find the above line soppy sentimental American shite then steer well clear of this gorgeous CD ,for anyone who secretly enjoys Ally Macbeal,Seinfeld,Letterman, etc (whilst obviously publicly berating them compared to real earthy classic British humour ),sink back into this radox music ,and watch  Jupiter come into Uranus .

Songs for single people to dream to and couples to make big love to ,but with enough clever changes and lyrical twists to keep anyone interested once the obvious singles and ballads have worn off.

"Your love is a chemical plant, ambiguous to the public, its not secure to our melting point"

That's two warnings, its up to you,(go on snugglely, buy it for rhinoboy)
